Minecraft is a sandbox game, where the player is offered to gather resources and use them in crafting and building in a vast open world. It was initially released in 2009 and has been ported to most platforms.
Gameplay: They Created a Trend
Minecraft has definitely set a benchmark for other survival sandbox games: even a decade after its first release we see its followers copying the core mechanics of the game.
Minecraft is perfect in its simplicity: you start with nothing, only you and the vast world of blocks around you. You can break these blocks to gain resources and use them in crafting and that is the essence of Minecraft. What makes it great is the depth it offers: there are around 400 items for crafting and a hundred types of blocks available. It also offers great room for creativity in building and the players get a chance to create whatever comes to their mind.
Graphics: When Indie Became a Blockbuster
Minecraft looks exactly as you would expect an indie sandbox to look: the graphics are made in pixel style, and the whole world is made of blocks. However, the game has gained huge popularity, which allowed the developers to polish it as hard as possible, and now even with that style the game looks modern. The resolutions are high, the environment feels to be alive, and the optimization is perfect on all platforms, allowing people to cross-play.
The game is definitely more fun when played with friends and the cross-platform play support allows you to join any of your mates playing Minecraft.
Controls: The More You Know
Knowledge is power in Minecraft. You start with nothing and get new items and tools gradually. It allows you to easier get used to the controls, but at some point it becomes really hard anyway. When you have dozens of valuable belongings split up between dozens of chests, the management becomes pretty messy.
- Huge crafting opportunities with almost 400 items available;
- Great space for creativity in building;
- Cross-platform play support.
- The graphics won’t seem attractive to everyone;
- Finding a proper server for stable online play might be a challenge.
